Week 4 Roundup: 1st Month Analysis Blowout!

It's that time again! Time for our first analysis blowout post! Well, there's a lot to cover this week so let's get right to it.

Stat Corrections

- Markieff Morris was credited with an ejection retroactive to November 8th. Pgastan FC had him active that week so he gains 100 points.

How you miss an ejection is beyond me. My sources tell me Pgastan FC GM was in constant contact with Yahoo! to try and rectify the issue. Perhaps the official scorers need a Fouling 101 refresh. Did they not know a Flagrant 2 is an automatic ejection? Anyway, with that stat correction, Pgastan FC scored a whopping 400 points on Monday, November 8th. They were only a techy away from a team cycle as well. His final line that night is now 20-2-0-1-1 (PF-DQ-T-F-E).

Pretty high scoring week for the league overall. F'N FLOPPERS was not one of them as they only had an average week of 365 points and stays in last place. Oww Ming's Flagrants also had an average week scoring 370 points and falls from 5th to 8th. Ohsnappers!!! had a great week of 485 points but stays in 7th place. Baltimore Hitsquad had an average week of 485 points and stays in 6th place. Arlington Assaulters had an amazing week of 620 points and moves up from 8th place to 5th as they continue their ascendancy after a slow start.

 

Gamblor had an excellent week of 570 points but actually falls from 2nd to 4th. Rodman'sWeddingDress had an amazing week of 670 points but surprisingly stays in 3rd place. Pgastan FC had an amazing week of 820 points and moves up from 4th to 2nd. Finally, GG Foulin' had an amazing week of 640 points and stays in first.

So first of all, I am leaving that spot for last month's Avg PPG so I don't forget to add it for month 2. A few things to note from the above. First is that the games played is relatively close for everyone only ranging from 86 to 93. Also by this metric, Gamblor is under performing and should be in 2nd place, Pgastan FC is over performing and should be in 3rd and Rodman'sWeddingDress is over performing and should be in 4th. The rest of the league is fouling at expected value.

Pgastan FC is projected to finish 4th, Rodman'sWeddingDress 3rd and Gamblor 2nd. Actually, Baltimore Hitsquad is projected to finish in 5th, Oww Ming's Flagrants in 6th, Ohsnappers!!! in 7th and Arlington Assaulters in 8th. Oh and F'N FLOPPERS is projected to finish in last place, but that's no surprise.

So after 4 weeks we have just 3 tiers but they are pretty distinct. Clearly in the bottom tier is F'N FLOPPERS. Then in Tier 2 you have the next 4 teams kind of jumbled up with each other. What's interesting is that the league average is clearly the dividing line between tiers 1 and 2. But of course it's still early so need a little larger sample size. But it's never too early to start analyzing!

F'N FLOPPERS and Arlington Assaulters finally got their performance fouls last week and GG Foulin' was the first to complete a season cycle. You would think Oww Ming's Flagrants gets the season cycle next as all they need is a foul out where Gamblor and Pgastan FC both need ejections and Rodman'sWeddingDress needs a flagrant, but we shall see.

Week 2 Roundup: Canned Response Edition

We're only 2 weeks into the season and we've already got some disappearing techies. So far, GG Foulin', Pgastan FC, and F'N FLOPPERS are missing a techy each. And that's only for the one's our Foul Club GMs have caught. What happens is it shows up as a techy live during the game but disappears the next morning. After checking the box scores on various websites and determining the techy should still be there (if you recall a few years ago, see the post "Yahoo! and the Curious Case of the Disappearing Techy" from 11/7/2015, that there were issues with Defensive 3-second techies showing up in live scoring then disappearing. Defensive 3 seconds shouldn't count as a performance foul so it was actually OK). Then the Foul Club will file a complaint to the commissioner and the commissioner will then file an official complaint with Yahoo! So twice in a few days this happened and we got the same basic response from Yahoo! Here's the latest response: 

Thank you for contacting Yahoo Sports. I understand you're inquiring about players not receiving points for a technical foul.

Scoring discrepancies
Sometimes scoring discrepancies happen in Yahoo Fantasy. They're rare, but here's how we handle them when they do:

    - All official player scoring, live data corrections and league standings are normally updated by 8:00am Pacific Time the morning after the game(s). Official stat corrections aren't applied until the end of the weekly matchup on Monday.
   -  Statistics that appear on StatTracker (TM) or Live Stats may not reflect all statistics earned by players during their games. If you see incorrect stats on game day, they will likely be corrected during our nightly update.
   - If they're not corrected by 8:00 AM PT the morning after the game, there may be a pending stat correction for your league.

Updates to fix incorrect live scoring stats

The MLB, NFL, NHL, and NBA issue stat corrections daily (as needed, while in season). We process the stat corrections during our regular nightly update.

    - Regular nightly updates - All official player scoring, live data corrections, and league standards are updated by 8 a.m. P.T. for the previous day's games.
   - Pending stat corrections - Anything not corrected by 8 a.m. P.T. is likely pending for your league. Check for pending or completed corrections under Players | Stat Corrections.
    - Head-to-Head corrections - If stat corrections aren't received by 11:59 p.m. P.T. at the end of the Game Week, they won't be applied as that week's Head-to-Head is no longer active.

A surprise at the bottom with Arlington Assautlers, who I thought had a great draft, got off to a horrible start with 185 points. F'N FLOPPERS didn't do much better with 215 points but they were in 9th place after week 1 last year so at least they're not there right now. Rodman'sWeddingDress starts the cluster of next teams with 330 points. That's followed by Baltimore Hitsquad only 10 points ahead at 340, with Ohsnappers!!! 5 points clear of them at 345. Followed by Oww Ming's Flagrants at 350 to close out that tier.

 

Pgastan FC starts the top tier after week 1 at 405 points. GG Foulin' ends week 1 in 2nd place after putting up 465 points. Finally, Gamblor is in 1st place after 1 week with 475 points.

2021 Post-Draft Dead Week Review

This should be a quick post. Just going to go over transactions form the past week as nothing else really happened. Also, don't forget to set your rosters this week as NFA action official commences tomorrow night!

2021 NFA Draft Recap

The 2021 NFA Draft was last night and it went well. It also only took about an hour which if I recall correctly is faster than the last few drafts which clocked in around 90 minutes. Of course one reason they have been slower lately is that we have had 100% turnout in previous drafts and last night was no different. All 9 foul clubs were represented at last night's draft. I'll go through the first round, some surprise picks, and some general analysis in this post before wrapping up with post-draft transactions from yesterday. 

Round 1:

1. Baltimore Hitsquad - Dwight Howard

2. Pgastan FC - Dillon Brooks

3. Gamblor - Julius Randle

4. F'N FLOPPERS - Josh Jackson

5. Ohsnappers!!! - Nikola Jokic

6. GG Foulin' - Devin Booker

7. Rodman'sWeddingDress - Russell Westbrook

8. Oww Ming's Flagrants - Luka Doncic

So we had a bit of a surprise with Dwight Howard going 1 overall. It's not a bad pick by any means but he may have fallen to round 2 or 3. Pgastan FC was then delighted to see Dillon Brooks fall to him at 2 as my sources tell me that he thought he would go 1 overall. Gamblor then took Julius Randle at 3 which may be a slight reach but still a solid pick. F'N FLOPERS took Josh Jackson which is always a good pick provided he gets enough playing time. Nikola Jokic was then drafted by Ohsanppers!!! at 5 which appears to be a pretty big reach for the 1st round but he has proven to be a quality fouler in the past so we'll see. Rodman'sWeddingDress took Russell Westbrook at 7 which is one of the best PGs in the NFA so never a bad pick espeically for the thin PG/SG slots in the league. Oww Ming's Flagrants took Luka Doncic at 8 which again in his limited sample size he's a good fouler. Finally, Arlington Assaulters went PG at 9 and took Kyle Lowry. 

Surprise Picks

- Round 2 Pick 1: Arlington Assaulters took Draymond Green. The pick is excellent and the surpirse is that he fell to round 2. My sources tell me Pgastan FC would have drafted him as high as number 2 overall.

- Round 6 Pick 5: Ohsnappers!!! took DeMarcus Cousins. Oh how the might have fallen. Cousins' time in the NFA may be over as it appears he may be plying his trade in China soon. 

Those are the 2 picks that were most surprising. It is very hard to judge and NFA draft so only time will tell who got it right.

General Analysis

With 100% turnout again and most foul clubs having great drafts overall we'll see if this will bring more parity into the league. I think one way to find this out as the season goes on will be if the league average score is closer to the median score. Also, not having anyone foul club too far behind or in front will also tell us if there's parity once we get a large enough sample. 

As foul clubs continue to embrace Foulerball, it looks like that has changed general draft strategy with more and more guards being drafted int he top 3 rounds. Guards are usually the thinnest position in the NFA followed by SF and finally PF and C. 6 of the first 9 picks in round 1 were of foulers that were eligible for either PG or SG. Though round 2 only had 1 such fouler but round 3 had 4.

2021 NFA Draft Lottery

Foulerton's Brook, NJ - The powers that be at the NFA have decided that in order to let NFA teams prepare properly for the draft, that a draft lottery will be conducted on the Monday before the NFA draft. Follow along this post to see live coverage as the lottery reveals the order of the 2021 NFA Draft.

The commissioner has readied the tools for the draft and we will begin momentarily.

Our accountant at Foulerton Credit Union is the only one in the room that knows the order and he has handed those over and the commissioner will open each sealed letter one-by-one to reveal the draft order. I will be providing pick by pick analysis following the commissioners announcement.

NFA Commissioner (NFAC):  The 9th pick in the 2021 NFA Draft goes to Arlington Assaulters.

Foul Master (FM): Tough to go last in the NFA but AA did have the number 1 pick last year so I guess it evens out.

 

NFAC: The 8th pick in the 2021 NFA Draft goes to Oww Ming's Flagrants

FM: Oww Ming had the 4th overall pick last year so this may be a setback but given the shakeup in talent lately picking near the end of the 1st round may be beneficial. 

NFAC: The 7th pick in the 2021 NFA Draft goes to Rodman'sWeddingDress

FM: Rodman'sWeddingDress had the last pick last season so at least they moved up a few spots this time.

 

NFAC The 6th pick in the 2021 NFA Draft goes to GG Foulin'

FM:  GG Foulin' had the 8th pick last year and won the league so no doubt he can work some magic again.

NFAC: The 5th pick in the 2021 NFA Draft goes to Ohsnappers!!!

FM: Not even the 1st pick will be useful to Ohsnappers!!! if they don't manage their team throughout the season.  

NFAC: The 4th pick in the 2021 NFA Draft goes to F'N FLOPPERS

FM: F'N FLOPPERS had the 7th pick last year so this is an improvement but they'll need to manage their team like regularly to have it pay dividends. 

 

NFAC: The 3rd pick in the 2021 NFA Draft goes to Gamblor

FM: Gamblor had the 7th pick last year and finished in 8th so maybe this is the shot in the arm they need.

 

NFAC: The 2nd pick in the 2021 NFA Draft goes to Pgastan FC

FM: PFC had the 6th pick last year and after starting out strong slumped to 3rd for the bronze. Maybe this will give them that elite talent they need to close the deal.

 

NFAC: And the 1st overall pick in the 2021 NFA Draft goes to Baltimore Hitsquad. 

FM: Can Baltimore Hitsquad not squander being given the 1st pick? Who will they take? They finished in 5th last season after getting the 5th pick so can they finish in 1st with the 1st pick?
