Week 6 Roundup: Yahoo Donking Hard Edition

So Yahoo has seemed to have dropped the ball again this week when it took away a Josh Jackson DTE and a Dwight Howard techy (both were in the same game). That's 220 points taken away from Pgastan FC. So, my sources tell me that NFA Commissioner filed a grievance on behalf of PFC to Yahoo to protest this mistake.

Now here's where it gets complicated, according to my sources the Commissioner (tried) to submit a claim for these errors to get fixed and it appeared to work but received no confirmation email that it went through. So they sent another one this time copying their text to a word document to have in case they needed to send it again. So when they submitted the contact form they also wrote down the incident number that it was assigned. Bingo! After, another mess up where all the performance fouls from the HOU/DAL game on January 4th were missing, he had saved that text and incident number. Lo and behold it was the same incident number which likely means that Yahoo's help form is not working properly which also explains the lack of a confirmation email.

Luckily, or sadly, the commish has the Yahoo Sports Help email address from previous missing performance foul issues so he was able to email them directly. I have obtained a copy of the exchange with Yahoo (edited down for space):

Good Morning,

I'm reaching out to you for a few reasons regarding my fantasy basketball league. I had a scoring issue a few weeks ago and tried emailing through the Yahoo Help form and never heard back. Then I just tried doing it again this morning and got the same incident number so thinking that system isn't working. I contacted you back in June and have this email address so going to try reaching out here.

Here are my 2 issues:

1. A lot of stats have disappeared as of this morning that were there last night (January 25th) when they should be there now. This league is only about fouls so it's pretty important. Missing: Josh Jackson (2 technical fouls and 1 ejection). Dwight Howard (1 technical foul). It might just be from the DET/PHI game. Please fix this.

2. Our league scores only on fouls and the technical fouls, 1 flagrant, and 1 ejection from the January 4th game between Houston and Dallas have not been recorded properly. It looks like we're missing the following fouls. Willie Cauley-Stein (1 Technical), DeMarcus Cousins (2 Technical Fouls and 1 Ejection), James Harden (1 Technical), Luka Doncic (1 Technical), James Johnson (1 Flagrant).

I think this can be corrected via stat corrections.

Thanks

So after about a day or so, they got back with this:

Hi,

Thank you for contacting Yahoo Sports. I understand you're inquiring about Josh Jackson and Dwight Howard not being credited with any Technical Fouls or an ejection for Jackson.

I've reached out to our engineering team to look into these scoring issues. Unfortunately, for the previously missed stats, they can no longer be added as stat corrections have already been applied for previous weeks and there is no retroactive scoring for fantasy basketball. I apologize for the inconvenience. If you see any issues with foul or ejection stats in the future, please let us know immediately so we can look into it.

If you have any other questions, comments or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me. Have a good day, and pleasant playing! Thank you for choosing Yahoo Fantasy Sports!

Thanks,

Yahoo Sports Customer Care

So after that response and given how stat corrections have appeared in the NFA for the 12 years it's been around, the commish was livid. He wrote this in response:

Hi,

Thanks for the response regarding Dwight Howard and Josh Jackson for this week. As for the previous issue regarding the January 4th game, our league is a points-based season-long format and retroactive points haven't been a problem in the past. This is the 12th year of this league and like 4 or 5 times a season we get "data dumps" of stat corrections such as NBA rescinding technical fouls or adding them that are months old. So it should work for our league as it has in the past.

Let me know if you have any questions regarding that or need any clarification on the issue for our league.

Thanks,

The commish has not received any other response form Yahoo nor has the Josh Jackson or Dwight Howard missing performance fouls been added. My sources tell me the commish was so livid that he has considered moving the league to ESPN but he may have cooled off for the time being. The issue regarding the HOU/DAL hasn't been resolved either.

So after that long intro of Yahoo donking hard, let's get into this weeks post.

Stat Corrections:
- There were no stat corrections this week (as you can tell from the lengthy intro)

Transactions:
- Pgastan FC added Cole Anthony and dropped Garrett Temple on January 25th
- GG Foulin' dropped Willie Cauley-Stein on January 30th
- Pgastan FC added Jamal Murray on January 30th
- Pgastan FC added Isaiah Stewart on January 30th
- Baltimore Hitsquad added Justin Holiday and dropped Jae Crowder on January 31st

Standings as of February 1st, 2021

1. Pgastan FC - 2985 (+475)
2. Oww Ming's Flagrants - 2695 (+625)
3. GG Foulin' - 2655 (+450)
4. F'N FLOPPERS - 2495 (+735)
5. Arlington Assaulters - 2175 (+335)
6. Rodman'sWeddingDress - 2075 (+470)
7. Gamblor - 2045 (+440)
8. Baltimore Hitsquad - 2040 (+405)
9. Ohsnappers!!! - 1345 (+265)

<= 195 points: Horrible week
200-295 points: Poor week
300-395 points: Average week
400-495 Points: Great Week
500-595 Points: Excellent Week
>=600 points: Amazing week

We actually had quite a bit of movement in the standings which seems to be rare these days. Lets see what happened! Ohsnappers! stays in last place with a poor week of 265 points. Baltimore Hitsquad had a great week of 405 points but drops from 6th to 8th. Gamblor had a great week of 440 points and goes from tied in 7th to sole possession of 7th. Rodman'sWeddingDress had a great week of 470 points and goes from tied in 7th to 6th place. Arlington Assautlers had an average week of 335 points and falls from 4th to 5th.

F'N FLOPPERS had an amazing week of 735 points and goes from 5th to 4th. GG Foulin' had a great week of 450 points and falls from 2nd to 3rd. Oww Ming's Flagrants had an amazing week of 625 points and moves from 3rd to 2nd. Finally, Pgastan FC had a great week of 475 points and stays in 1st. Though in reality Pgastan FC had an amazing week of 695 points and his total should be 3205.

Points Graph:

Tier 5: Ohsnappers!!!
Tier 4: Baltimore Hitsquad, Gamblor, Rodman'sWeddingDress, Arlington Assaulters
Tier 3: F'N FLOPPERS
Tier 2: Oww Ming's Flagrants, GG Foulin'
Tier 1: Pgastan FC

Arlington Assaulters drops down to tier 4 while F'N FLOPPERS is now in tier 3 all alone. There could be an argument for F'N FLOPPERS joining tier 2 and there being only 4 tiers in general but let's give it a week. Based on the graph there is a little gap between tier 3 and 2.

Well that's it for now

Week 5 Roundup: Bench Strength Edition

Well over the last few weeks a few Foul Club GMs have brought to my attention the lack of waiver wire strength and how hard it is to improve one's foul club post-draft (and basically post-week 2 of the NFA season). I mean I even posted about this in the Week 2 Roundup. It was brought up to me again last week by another GM and I had mentioned what I heard other GMs discussing.

I think there  are basically 2 options that we could do to adjust rosters that have come up during the last few weeks:

1. Decrease the number of bench spots from 3 to 2 or 1
2. Eliminate the UTIL positions to have only a starting 5.

Now, I think option 1 is the best if we chose to pursue any of this. If we go with option 2 and eliminate the UTIL spots then it becomes harder compare NFA seasons. Now granted the lockout and hte pandemic shortened season do not have the normal 82 games so maybe this isn't that big of a deal but one thing's for certain that it would lock Rodman'sWeddingDress as the all-time highest scoring NFA season in place. I think NFA teams have a right to challenge that record.

So what I am going to do now is go through each team's roster as of this post and look at their current Yahoo Rank for their 3 bench players to see if people are hoarding any good players:

Current Rank of Their 3 Bench Players:

1. Pgastan FC -35, 40, 50 (All of his bench players are injured and this isn't their normal bench. Normal bench for PFC would be 24, 39, 135)
2. Oww Ming's Flagrants - 17, 54, 55 (Dillon Brooks on bench because of COVID postponements. Oubre is ranked 41 who was on their bench yesterday)
3. GG Foulin' - 12, 27, 42
4. F'N FLOPPERS - 45, 145, 206
5. Baltimore Hitsquad -29, 37, 138
6. Gamblor -136, 165, 199
7. Arlington Assaulters -18, 21, 25 (Booker is injured an ranked 18th so his replacement is ranked 207 which would be more accurate)
8. Rodman'sWeddingDress -47, 89, 128
9. Ohsnappers!!! -13, 34 (Has empty bench spot, probably not checking their team)

So I started writing this on Friday and thought it was a good idea. However, I didn't think about injuries and COVID causing disruptions to Foul Clubs starting lineups so this may not be the best snapshot but still you can see some decent foulers on benches out there. Let the debate begin!

Now, let's get to this week's post.

Stat Corrections
- DeAndre Hunter had a Personal Foul taken away from him retroactive to January 18th. Pgastan FC had him active that week so he loses 5 points.

Transactions
- Arlington Assaulters added Terrence Ross and dropped Jarrett Allen on January 21st
- Oww Ming's Flagrants added Fred VanVleet and dropped JJ Reddick on January 21st
- GG Foulin' added Keldon Johnson on January 24th
- Baltimore Hitsquad added Damion Lee and dropped CJ McCollum on January 24th
- Pgastan FC added Garrett Temple and dropped PJ Washington on January 24th

Standings as of January 25th, 2021

1. Pgastan FC - 2510 (+490)
2. GG Foulin' - 2205 (+605)
3. Oww Ming's Flagrants - 2070 (+360)
4. Arlington Assaulters - 1840 (+590)
5. F'N FLOPPERS - 1755 (+230)
6. Baltimore Hitsquad - 1635 (+250)
7. Gamblor - 1605 (+320)
7. Rodman'sWeddingDress - 1605 (+555)
9. Ohsnappers!!! - 1080 (+195)

<= 195 points: Horrible week
200-295 points: Poor week
300-395 points: Average week
400-495 Points: Great Week
500-595 Points: Excellent Week
>=600 points: Amazing week

Ohsnappers!!! had a poor week of 195 points and stays in 9th place but does finally make it past the 1000 point threshold. Rodman'sWeddingDress had an excellent week of 555 points but only makes it to a tie for 7th place from 8th place. Gamblor had a an average week of 320 points and falls from 6th to a tie for 7th. Baltimore Hitsquad had a poor week of 250 points and falls one spot to 6th place F'N FLOPPERS had a poor week of 230 points and falls from 4th to 5th.

Arlington Assaulters had an excellent week of 590 points and moves all the way from 7th place to 4th place. This was done because of Mason Plumlee's week for the ages of 4 straight foul outs! That's a stat line of 365 (25-4-0-0-0). Not sure we've ever seen anything like that in NFA history for one fouler. We've had some big weeks before for a single fouler but that's usually due to an ejection or one big night not 4-straight games of production like this.

Oww Ming's Flagrants had an average week of 360 points and falls from 2nd to 3rd place. GG Foulin' had an amazing week of 605 points and moves up to 2nd from 3rd place. Finally, Pgastan FC remains in 1st place after a great week of 490 points.

Points Graph:

Tier 5: Ohsnappers!!!
Tier 4: Rodman'sWeddingDress, Gamblor, Baltimore Hitsquad
Tier 3: F'N FLOPPERS, Arlington Assaulters
Tier 2: Oww Ming's Flagrants, GG Foulin'
Tier 1: Pgastan FC

Looks like we had some change in the tiers. The graph shows 5 distinct tiers though if you were to look at the standings in tabular form you might break it down slightly different. I think you could argue that Tier 4 and 3 could be combined to one tier as well but there's some difference between the tiers when looking at it on a graph.

Well that's it for now

Keep Foulin' Y'all!
