Week 1 Roundup: NFA Resumes Edition

Well it's been a crazy calendar year. That being 2020 of course. Aside from the draft recap I posted last week, I hadn't posted since June 22, 2020 where we recapped the pandemic-shortened season. So the 2020-21 season started last week so that means it's time for the weekly roundup posts! As usual, I won't start posting the points graph and analysis until week 4 of the season, so until then I'll bring back the Performance Foul Tracker. Hopefully, we all have more of an appreciation for the National Foul Association after this past year when the season ended abruptly. You don't know what you have until it's gone or changes.

So without further ado, let's get to this week's post.

Performance Foul Watch

Oww Ming's Flagrants - Foul Out and Techy on 12/23/20

GG Foulin' - Techy on 12/23/20
Ohsnappers!!! -
F'N FLOPPERS -
Gamblor - Foul Out 12/26/20
Arlington Assaulters - 2 Techies and a Foul Out on 12/26/20

First Ejection -
First Flagrant - Pgastan FC on 12/27/20
First Techy - Oww Ming's Flagrants, Baltimore Hitsquad, Pgastan FC, and GG Foulin' on 12/23/20
First Foul Out - Oww Ming's Flagrants on 12/23/20

So in the first week only 2 teams: Ohsnappers!!! and F'N FLOPPERS do not have performance fouls. It took Arlington Assaulters a few days to get his first but he got 3 that day! No team has an ejection yet, we'll see how long that takes.

Stat Corrections

Standings as of December 28th, 2020

1. Oww Ming's Flagrants - 455 (+455)
2. Pgastan FC - 420 (+420)
3. Arlington Assaulters - 360 (+360)
4. GG Foulin' - 325 (+325)
5. Gamblor - 310 (+310)
6. Rodman'sWeddingDress - 270 (+270)
7. Baltimore Hitsquad - 195 (+195)
8. Ohsnappers!!! - 155 (+155)
9. F'N FLOPPERS - 145 (+145)

<= 195 points: Horrible week
200-295 points: Poor week
300-395 points: Average week
400-495 Points: Great Week
500-595 Points: Excellent Week
>=600 points: Amazing week

F'N FLOPPERS starts 2020-21 where he left off last season.... in last place. Ohsnappers!!! isn't far ahead of the cellar either with just 10 points clear. The Hitsquad is the 3rd team under 200 points after 1 week in 7th place. Rodman'sWeddingDress appears to be the bottom team of tier 2 at 270. Gamblor would fall into tier 2 as well with 310 as does GG Foulin' at 325. In tier 1 we have AA at 360 points and in 3rd place. PFC is in 2nd place at 420 points, while Oww Ming's Flagrants is in 1st at 455 points.

It's rare to get tiers this early and it's only 1 week so we'll see what happens over the first month but would be interesting to see if these hold for a little bit.

Well that's it for now.

Keep Foulin' Y'all!

2020-21 NFA Draft Recap and Season Preview

Well, after an unprecedented season due to COVID which essentially ended abruptly but not before about a 3 month delay which even lead to GG Foulin' to file a protest how the season ended, we have come upon a new NFA season. I have decided to try something different and attempt to recap the draft and have some sort of season preview. We'll see how this goes.

*Disclosure: All draft grades are completely subjective and arbitrary and should be used for entertainment purposes only.

Arlington Assaulters Draft:

1.(1) Devin Booker (Pho - SG,SF)
2. (18) Jaren Jackson Jr. (Mem - PF,C)
3. (19) Jusuf Nurkic (Por - C)
4. (36) Blake Griffin (Det - PF,C)
5. (37) Markieff Morris (LAL - PF,C)
6. (54) Spencer Dinwiddie (Bkn - PG,SG)
7. (55) Evan Fournier (Orl - SG,SF)
8. (72) Mason Plumlee (Det - PF,C)
9. (73) Hassan Whiteside (Sac - PF,C)
10. (90) John Wall (Hou - PG)

He went a little out of the box with a SG number 1 overall but Booker has been a pretty prolific fouler last few seasons. Jaren Jackson Jr. should be good once he returns but we'll see when that is. Nurkic was Yahoo's default number 1 for projected foulers but that only accounts for personal fouls so we'll see if he can match that with performance fouls. Blake Griffin used to be a great fouler but not so much anymore. Markieff Morris is a beast if he can get playing time.

Total 2019-20 Points: 10,260

Draft Grade: B-

Gamblor's Draft:

1.(2) Joel Embiid (Phi - PF,C)
2. (17) T.J. Warren (Ind - SF,PF)
3. (20) Trae Young (Atl - PG)
4. (35) Bam Adebayo (Mia - PF,C)
5. (38) D'Angelo Russell (Min - PG,SG)
6. (53) Kevin Durant (Bkn - SF,PF)
7. (56) Jayson Tatum (Bos - SF,PF)
8. (71) Collin Sexton (Cle - PG,SG)
9. (74) Domantas Sabonis (Ind - PF,C)
10. (89) Mikal Bridges (Pho - SG,SF)

Gamblor had the 2nd overall pick and went with Joel Embiid which is always a good pick...if he can stay healthy. TJ Warren at 17 overall was kind of a surprise but he had a good season last year so hopefulyl he can replicate it. Trae Young is a little weak at PG but has some upside, while Bam Adebayo has shown flashes of good fouling but inconsistency seems to plague his early career. He's taken a chance with Durant but he can get double digit techies if he is on.

Total 2019-20 Points: 9,985

Draft Grade: C-

Ohsnappers!!! Draft:

1.(3) James Harden (Hou - PG,SG)
2. (16) Luka Doncic (Dal - PG,SG)
3. (21) Anthony Davis (LAL - PF,C)
4. (34) Stephen Curry (GS - PG,SG)
5. (39) Nikola Jokic (Den - PF,C)
6. (52) Damian Lillard (Por - PG)
7. (57) LeBron James (LAL - PG,SG,SF)
8. (70) Kawhi Leonard (LAC - SG,SF)
9. (75) Jimmy Butler (Mia - SF,PF)
10. (88) Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (OKC - SG,SF)

Ohsnappers!!! was the only foul club to not show up for the draft... and it shows. Harden, Doncic, and Jokic are decent foulers but that's about it. He's gonna have to work the waiver wire to get into contention this season.

Total 2019-20 Points: 8,320

Draft Grade: F

Oww Ming's Flagrants Draft

1.(4)Dillon Brooks (Mem - SG,SF)
2. (15) Russell Westbrook (Was - PG)
3. (22) Kelly Oubre Jr. (GS - SF,PF)
4. (33) Jaxson Hayes (NO - C)
5. (40) Julius Randle (NY - PF,C)
6. (51) Bradley Beal (Was - SG,SF)
7. (58) Carmelo Anthony (Por - SF,PF)
8. (69) Michael Porter Jr. (Den - SF,PF)
9. (76) James Wiseman (GS - C)
10.(87)Dennis Schroder (LAL - PG)

Oww Ming took Dillon Brooks at 4 overall who after the season restart in August ended up with the most fantasy points (though these are not in the official NFA stats). Russell Westbrook was his 2nd round pick which always has upside. Oubre Jr. and Hayes have upside as, frankly do most of his picks. He is taking a chance on a rookie in Wiseman but it's always good to gamble on a rookie in the late rounds to see what happens.

Total 2019-20 Points: 11,920

Draft Grade:  A-

Baltimore Hitquad's Draft:

1.(5) DeMarcus Cousins (Hou - PF,C)
2. (14) Jonas Valanciunas (Mem - C)
3. (23) Mitchell Robinson (NY - C)
4. (32) CJ McCollum (Por - PG,SG)
5. (41) Daniel Theis (Bos - C)
6. (50) Jae Crowder (Pho - SF,PF)
7. (59) Donovan Mitchell (Uta - PG,SG)
8. (68) Richaun Holmes (Sac - PF,C)
9. (77) Ian Mahinmi (Was - C)
10. (86) Chris Paul (Pho - PG)

The Hitsquad took future Hall of Famer DeMarcus Cousins at 5 overall. He slipped due to injury but some think he definitely could have still gone 1st overall. Valanciunas has a good history of fouling and was good last season so hopefully he can keep it up. Mitchell Robinson has shown to be a great fouler in his first 2 years but his lack of playing time could hinder his production. McCollum is a solid pick for PG as that's always the most difficult position to fill. Donovan Mitchell is a solid late round pick.

Total 2019-20 Points: 11,685

Draft Grade: B+

Pgastan FC's Draft:

1.(6) Andre Drummond (Cle - C)
2. (13) Patrick Beverley (LAC - PG,SG)
3. (24) Dwight Howard (Phi - C)
4. (31) Wendell Carter Jr. (Chi - C)
5. (42) Paul George (LAC - SF,PF)
6. (49) Harry Giles III (Por - PF,C)
7. (60) Josh Hart (NO - SG,SF)
8. (67) Marquese Chriss (GS - PF,C)
9. (78) Killian Hayes (Det - PG,SG)
10. (85) Josh Jackson (Det - SG,SF)

PFC took Andre Drummond at 6 overall which is a solid pick. He also got arguably the best point guard in Beverley in round 2. Diwght Howard is a always a solid pick but in the 3rd round it may have been a reach. Wendell Carter Jr. has shown promise as a fouler if he can stay healthy same goes for Harry Giles III. His other picks are either rookies or developmental projects with high upside and low costs so it would be easy to cut should they not work out.

Total 2019-20 Points: 8,895

Draft Grade: B-

F'N FLOPPERS Draft:

1.(7) Marcus Morris Sr. (LAC - PF,C)
2. (12) Kyle Lowry (Tor - PG)
3. (25) Kent Bazemore (GS - SG,SF)
4. (30) Moritz Wagner (Was - PF,C)
5. (43) P.J. Tucker (Hou - PF,C)
6. (48) Pascal Siakam (Tor - PF,C)
7. (61) Taurean Prince (Bkn - SF,PF)
8. (66) OG Anunoby (Tor - SF,PF)
9. (79) Montrezl Harrell (LAL - PF,C)
10. (84) Duncan Robinson (Mia - SG,SF)

F'N FLOPPERS went with Marcus Morris for his first pick which is not too shaby. Kyle Lowry was his 2nd round pick which is one of the better PGs out there. Bazemore is a great SG but maybe a reach in the 3rd round. Moritz Wagner was excellent last year so this is a great pick. PJ Tucker has had some great fouling before so hopefully he can keep it up this season. After a record low season last year he drafted a good team this year (based on last season's stats anyway) so hopefully he can get out of the cellar.

Total 2019-20 Points: 13,090

Draft Grade: B+

GG Foulin's Draft:

1.(8) Karl-Anthony Towns (Min - C)
2. (11) Draymond Green (GS - PF,C)
3. (26) Brandon Ingram (NO - SF,PF)
4. (29) Ben Simmons (Phi - PG)
5. (44) Jaylen Brown (Bos - SG,SF)
6. (47) Aron Baynes (Tor - C)
7. (62) John Collins (Atl - PF,C)
8. (65) De'Aaron Fox (Sac - PG)
9. (80) Davis Bertans (Was - PF,C)
10. (83) Hamidou Diallo (OKC - SG,SF)

GG Foulin' took KAT at 8 overall which is a good pick and if this looks familiar it is because he took him 1 overall last season. Draymond Green is always a good pick and it's surprising to see him slip to the 2nd round. Ingram and Simmons are good for their positions. Baynes has had some hot streaks before and so has Collins. Bertans was great for a stretch last year as well.

Total 2019-20 Points: 11,475

Draft Grade: B

Rodman'sWeddingDress' Draft:

1.(9) Rudy Gobert (Uta - C)
2. (10) DeMar DeRozan (SA - SG,SF)
3. (27) Marcus Smart (Bos - PG,SG)
4. (28) Giannis Antetokounmpo (Mil - PF,C)
5. (45) Robert Covington (Por - PF,C)
6. (46) Nemanja Bjelica (Sac - PF)
7. (63) Brook Lopez (Mil - C)
8. (64) Joe Ingles (Uta - SG,SF)
9. (81) Deandre Ayton (Pho - C)
10. (82) Kyrie Irving (Bkn - PG)

Rodman'sWeddingDress took Gobert for his 1st round pick who despite basically cuasing the league to shut down amid the COVID pandemic in March is a great fouler.DeRozan is a great fouler for SG but may have been a reach at 10 overall. Smart and Giannis both have a lot of upside as foulers and hopefully they can perform for RWD. He has some strong upside picks for the rest of his draft so this team could be a darkhorse.

Total 2019-20 Points: 12,495

Draft Grade: B+

Well that's a rundown of each Foul Club's drafts. I said I was going to do a season preview but that's virtually impossible in the NFA. Even the total 19-20 points really mean nothing espeically as some foul clubs take players who were injured last year or are rookies this year.

Stay tuned for an exciting new season of NFA action! And keep an eye on this blog for all things NFA!

Well that's it for now.

BREAKING: GG Foulin's Grievance to Protest Season's End Denied

Foulerton's Brook, NJ - It has come to the attention of this blog through various sources that Foul Club Manager GG Foulin' had formally submitted a grievance to protest the end of season to the NFA Commissioner. Apparently, there was some back and forth between the NFA Commissioner, GG Foulin', and Pgastan FC starting late Saturday night that then continued into Sunday Morning with Pgastan FC the last one to agree to the grievance. A formal grievance was submitted to Yahoo! on GG Foulin's behalf by the NFA commissioner at approximately 2:20 PM Eastern Time on Sunday, June 21st.

We have obtained a version of the grievance that we can publish here:

"Given the context of the circumstances involving COVID-19 leading to the postponement and subsequent cancellation of the NBA Regular season and the inconsistencies of the rulings across and within fantasy platforms particularly as it applies to weekly roster changes/weekly scoring. Would it be possible to award our league title as a 2-way tie between Pgastan FC and GG Foulin'? We feel our league does not fall under the one-size fits all solution that Yahoo came up with as we have weekly roster changes but are a points league where points update daily. So we feel the correct decision would be to have 1st (Pgastan FC) and 2nd (GG Foulin') to finish in a tie for first. This should be seen in final standings, archived standings, and trophies in Yahoo Fantasy Profiles for the 2 managers. We don't want any automatic tiebrekers applied either so essentially this year we would have 2 teams in 1st (Pgastan FC and GG Foulin') and 1 team in 3rd (Oww Ming's Flagrants), there would be no 2nd place team this year."

Yahoo! responded at approximately 1:10 PM Eastern Time on Monday, June 22 with this:

"Unfortunately, all standings have been finalized and cannot be changed. In addition, tiebreakers cannot be disabled...I apologize that I can't be of more assistance. "

It was a pretty generic response which is frankly what the NFA Commissioner was anticipating, my sources tell me.

So the standings that were blogged about last week are final and the winner of the 2019-2020 NFA Season is Pgastan FC. Though this season will always have an asterisk by it because of the abrupt end Pgastan FC is the official winner in the record books. The grievance ultimately had to be filed as it was the right thing to do and uphold the reputation of the NFA and it's commissioner. We have seen things like this in all sports where teams continue to play in protest (where the umpire makes a "P" sign towards the press box, or a soccer team protests a result). This just adds the NFA to the list of leagues where anything can happen. Obviously, this has no bearings on the Donkies as those are player awards.

If we get any further updates we will post either in this post or a brand new post.

2019-2020 End of the Season Donkies!

UPDATE (12/21/2020): So I didn't realize until our draft for 2020-21 that a few of the games after the restart in August were actually regular season games. So I have to update the Donkies for historical accuracy.

I figured with the ESPY's tomorrow I should get the real awards out in advance so it takes the limelight away from those fake award shows. We all know the Donkies are the most important awards

Now this was a shortened season due to the Pandemic but like i said in my previous post we completed about 80% of the season (roughly what was done in the 2011-2012 lockout season though here not every team had completed the same amount of games). So we are still going ahead with the Donkies.

The Roger Murdock Persistent Fouling Award (Most Personal Fouls):
Dillon Brooks finished with the most fouls at 278.

The Shawn Kemp Award (Most Foul Outs):
Dillon Brooks finished with 10 foul outs.

The Rasheed Wallace Legacy Award (Most Technical Fouls):
It's a 3-way tie between DeMar DeRozan, Russell Westbrook, and Draymond Green! Each finished the season with 14 Technical Fouls

The Charles Oakley Award (Most Flagrant Fouls):
We have a 9-way tie! Devin Booker, Jonas Valanciunas, Bobby Portis, Aron Baynes, C.J. McCollum, Markief Morris, DeMar DeRozan, Davis Bertans, and Joel Embiid each finished the season with 3 flagrants.

The Dennis Rodman Award (Most Ejections):
Draymond Green finished the season with 3 ejections.

Donkies by Position  Note Stat Lines below are: (Personal Fouls-Foul Outs-Techies-Ejections-Flagrants):

PG: Russell Westbrook with 1960 points (200-2-14-2-1)

SG: Dillon Brooks with 2270 points (278-10-5-0-1)

SF: DeMar DeRozan with 1860 points (180-1-14-1-3)

PF: Marcus Morris Sr. with 1740 points (180-1-13-1-2)

C: Andre Drummond with 1885 points (201-5-10-1-1)

6th Man Award (Highest Point total for a fouler who went undrafted): Jonas Valanciunas with 1785 points (185-3-11-0-3)

Most Valuable Fouler (MVF): Dillon Brooks with 2270 points (278-10-5-0-1)

**************************************************************************

UPDATE (12/21/2020): Here's a rundown of any changes since June.

1. Dillon Brooks wins the Shawn Kemp award outright.
2.DeMar DeRozan Joins Westbrook and Green for the Rasheed Wallace Award
3. The Charles Oakley award is now a 9-way tie with Jonas Valanciunas, Devin Booker, and C.J. McCollum joining the other 6.
4. Marcus Morris Sr. squeaks by Jaren Jackson Jr. for PF Donkey by 20 points!
5. 6th Man award goes to Valancuinas instead of TJ Warren.

With the help of a few extra games we did get 2 foulers to crack 2000 points. And we didn't have a 6-way tie for flagrants, but a 9-way tie! Brooks extended his personal foul lead by 32.
****************************************************************************

Just like we wonder how the season would have ended had we been able to complete it we wonder how that would have affected the Donkies. I am guessing we still have some kind of tie for Flagrants but not a 6-way tie. Obviously, no one cracked 2000 points this year so we wonder what could have been. Props to Ohsnappers!!! for picking up 6th man before the season after he had to drop an inactive draft pick .

The Donkies by stat are actually in the range of a regular season to be honest though personal fouls probably gets to 260ish. We usually end techies in teh 14-16 range I feel like and last year Foul Outs recored was 9 so really not that bad.

Well that's it for the awards as we wrap up another season of the National Foul Association. We congratulate Pgastan FC who now joins Rodman'sWeddingDress in the only Foul Clubs to win back-to-back titles (I probably should have wrote that in th previous post).

Well that's it for now.

Keep Foulin' Y'all!

2019-2020 NFA Season Recap

Well, it's been exactly 3 months after my last post which was the first Monday after league play was suspended due to the pandemic. And it turns out that the standings in that post were indeed final. Though it should be noted that ESPN fantasy reverted back to standings after March 8th (the last Sunday of league play) while Yahoo decided to have the final standings as final.

As I stated in my last post, it was obviously the right decision to suspend fouling but we will never know if either GG Foulin', Pgastan FC, or even both would have broken Rodman'sWeddingDress' all-time points record. So even though Pgastan FC eked out a 5-point win (closest win possible and more on that later) the real winner might actually be Rodman'sWeddingDress.

It should be noted that just about 80% of the scheduled season was completed upon suspension.

Transactions
- GG Foulin' added Richaun Holmes and dropped Naz Reid on June 3rd
- GG Foulin' added Davis Bertans and dropped John Collins on June 3rd
- GG Foulin' added Zach Collins and dropped Marquese Chriss on June 3rd
- GG Foulin' added Justise Winslow and dropped Wendell Carter Jr. on June 3rd
- GG Foulin' dropped Karl-Anthony Towns on June 3rd
- GG Foulin' added De"Aaron Fox on June 3rd
- Pgastan FC added Kris Dunn and dropped Jordan McRae on June 6th
- GG Foulin' added Jusuf Nurkic and dropped Justise Winslow. on June 6th

GG Foulin' made a bunch of transactions in anticipation that the league would actually restart and finish the season though of course that didn't happen. Pgastan FC added Kris Dunn back strictly for archive purposes though my sources tell me that he contemplated making moves in April and May just to be ready.

Stat Corrections:
There were no stat corrections this week

Final NFA Standings 2019-2020:

1. Pgastan FC - 10555
2. GG Foulin' - 10550
3. Oww Ming's Flagrants - 9000
4. Gamblor - 8775
5. Rodman'sWeddingDress - 8635
6. Arlington Assaulters - 8535
7. Ohsnappers!!! - 8040
8. Baltimore Hitsquad -  6695
9. F'N FLOPPERS - 4870

With no games in over 3 months and having already recapped the standings in my March 16th post, I write my regular recap post. I'll just write a few observations. As stated in the opening, the real winner might actually be Rodman'sWeddingDress as his record is safe. Pgastan FC wins the league by 5 points (1 personal foul) which is the closest margin of victory possible. On the other end of the spectrum, F'N FLOPPERS who was already on pace to shatter the all-time low finishes well almost 2000 points off of it. But again, this season will have an asterisk next to it but we will still probably count it in the all-time records. As it turns out Baltimore Hitsquad just beat the all-time low at 6,695 by 25 points.

Pgastan FC really came from behind to win this year. GG Foulin' had led the league after taking over from PFC in Week 3 until PFC took the lead back in Week 17 and 18 before GG Foulin' took it back in Week 19 only to lose it by the end of the abbreviated week 21.

So out of 21 weeks Pgastan FC led in weeks 1, 2, 17,18, and 21. All other weeks were led by GG Foulin'. I guess you can't even say it's not how you start it's how you finish as PFC started in first.

We actually have the same Foul Clubs finish in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd this year as last year.

Speaking of which here is the updated All-Time Standings:

Team Foul Stats
Let's take a look at which foul club accumulated the most stats of each of the 5 stat categories as well as totals for the NFA in this abbreviated season.

Personal Fouls
Total: 10,131
Leader: GG Foulin' with 1,378 fouls (13.6% of the league's fouls)

Low: Baltimore Hitsquad and F'N FLOPPERS each with 0 (each with a 0% share)

Obviously no records were set with the abbreviated season but here are the records as they stand:

Oww Ming's Flagrants 27 (2018-2019)

Ejections
Pgastan FC: 8 (2012-2013)

Average Points Per Game: The order is the final standings.

1. Pgastan FC - 23.93
2. GG Foulin' - 24.42
3. Oww Ming's Flagrants - 20.93
4. Gamblor - 21.67
5. Rodman'sWeddingDress - 21.86
6. Arlington Assaulters - 21.23
7. Ohsnappers!!! - 18.44
8. Baltimore Hitsquad -  17.12
9. F'N FLOPPERS -11.82

League Average - 20.16

According to this metric, GG Foulin' shoud have finished in 1st with Pgastan FC should have finished 2nd. Rodman'sWeddingDress should have finished in 4th, with Gamblor in 5th and Oww Ming['s Flagrants should have finished in 6th Ogsnappers!!!, Baltimore Hitsquad, and F'N FLOPPERS finished below the league average which was really brought down by F'N FLOPPERS as you would expect it to fall between 4th and 5th but instead it's between 6th and 7th.

NFA Titles:

Rodman'sWeddingDress 3 - 2010-2011, 2011-2012, 2014-2015
Arlington Assaulters 2- 2013-2014 and 2015-2016
GG Foulin' 1- 2016-2017

Oww Ming's Flagrants 1- 2017-2018

Pgastan FC wins his 4th ttile again in this unprecedented season which was suspended with about 20% of games remaiing. Teams played between 63-67 games at the time of suspension.  During the lockout season (which doesn't have an asterisk) teams played 66 games. This is different in that the teams did not all play the same amount of games as it was abruptly halted.

I am sure thie merits of this season will be debated at NFA bars and watch parties for years to come but it is what it is and Pgastan FC is the winner.
