2022-2023 NFA Draft Recap and Season Preview

It's great to be back! With the NFA season starting tomorrow and the draft last night this post will give you a recap of the draft and then a short season preview.

2022-23 NFA Draft:

Well for starters the draft took only about 40 minutes, which is excellent as the last few drafts have dragged on due to some GMs being indecisive. Each Foul Club still had 90 seconds to make a pick and 8 of the 9 GMs were present, the only exception was Ohsnappers!!!. Here's a recap of the first round of last nights draft.

2022-23 NFA Draft Round 1:

1. Oww Ming's Flagrants - Karl-Anthony Towns
2. Pgastan FC - Dillon Brooks
3. Baltimore Hitsquad - Alperen Sengun
4. F'N FLOPPERS - Joel Embiid
5. Arlington Assaulters - Julius Randle
6. GG Foulin' - Russell Westbrook
7. Rodman'sWeddingDress - Motrezl Harrell
8. Gamblor - Draymond Green
9. Ohsnappers!!! Nikola Jokic

Oww Ming's Flagrants won the draft lottery this year and took the consensus number 1 pick in Karl-Anthony Towns. Pgastan FC was next on the clock and took Dillon Brooks. My sources tell me that he had KAT, Brooks, and Draymond lined up in his queue. Baltimore Hitsquad was 3, and using his metrics of projected fouls by Yahoo! for the season took the biggest surprise of the round in Alperen Sengun. It's not a bad pick but he probably falls a few rounds. However, time will tell if he is vindicated. F'N FLOPPERS chose 4th and selected Joel Embiid, always a good pick if he can stay healthy.

Arlington Assaulters snagged Julius Randle at 5 which could be great value. GG Foulin' went Russell Westbrook at 6 trying to solidify their starting PG position. Rodman'sWeddingDress took Montrezl Harrell at 7 which is probably the other big surprise of the 1st round. Gamblor got great value at 8 with Draymond Green, always a great fouler. Finally, Ohsnappers!!! took Nikola Jokic on auto-pick, which isn't a terrible auto-pick.

Post-Draft Transactions
-Oww Ming's Flagrants added Grant Williams

Oww Ming beat multiple Foul Clubs in drafting the injured Jaren Jackson Jr. so he was able to stash him on IR and made the above roster move in conjunction.

Season Preview
I'm going to go with a short team by team preview and outlook in this next section with teams listed in order of the draft.

1. Oww Ming's Flagrants - The NFA GM consensus immediately after the draft was that Oww Ming has the best Foul Club this season. Some even going as far to saying "he's stacked." However, after closer examination, they might lack a little depth so could ultimately be beatable but they are the betting favorites at the start of the season to take the title.

2. Pgastan FC - Has some strong early picks but a little weak at PG and SF. Also taking some chances on 2 rookies to start the season so they may lack depth and early waiver wire moves may be critical for success in the long run. My sources tell me PFC feels OK about their draft but not great.

3. Baltimore Hitsquad - Based off of last years stats, you have to say the Hitsquad has a pretty weak team. But they are banking on Yahoo!'s projections of personal fouls for this year to be good. They also have 3 rookies in their starting lineup!

4. F'N FLOPPERS - Has a decent team, probably middle of the pack on paper but definitely has some potential to challenge for the top half of the standings. Their 2nd round pick, Jae'Sean Tate could be a huge steal but looks to start the season injured.

5. Arlington Assaulters - Can they return to their glory days in the NFA? They have a pretty strong team on paper, 6 of their 7 starters averaging over 20 points per game last season. Though, they had Jae Crowder on their bench as of now who averaged 29 points per game last year. That's why the sports books have AA as 2nd in odds to win the NFA title this year.

6. GG Foulin' - Can last years winner repeat? Well based on their draft they'll have some work to do. However, they should be a contender for the title but are not the clear favorites on the eve of the season. He's very strong at guard this season so we'll see if that strategy pays off.

7. Rodman'sWeddingDress - A couple strong picks and a few risks picks make Rodman'sWeddingDress a true wildcard for the season. If his bets pay off he could be challenging for their first title in 8 seasons. He's taking a chance on Ben Simmons at PG who sat out all of last season but has shown he can foul when called upon.

8. Gamblor - Twice the runner-up but never winning a title, is this the year for Gamblor? On paper, probably not, though that's based on last years stats of course. Though they have some strong picks in Draymond, Gobert, and Oubre Jr. they are likely facing an uphill battle to contend this season.

9. Ohsnappers!!! - The only Foul Club not to have representation at the draft will likely be confined to the NFA cellar all season. Jokic is a decent 1st round pick but aside from that they don't have much. Paul George is currently on their bench and arguably their 2nd best player, though Giannis has had some good fouling in the past. If they want to contend they'll have to make some waiver wire moves and actively manage this season.

Season Prediction: It's likely we get a duel for 1st between AA and Oww Ming and a duel for 3rd between PFC and GG Foulin' this season. A little role reversal from previous seasons. I'm not going to predict the final standings because the NFA is so random. But that's why we love it!

Happy Foulin' and enjoy the season!

Well that's it for now.

Keep Foulin' Y'all!
