Week 5 Roundup: I Need More Foul Bell Edition

It kind of rhymes with Cowbell, right? Foul Bell? Anyway, let's get right to this week's post.

Well, the Season Cycle Tracker is finished so that works out well though as it bought enough time so we can get the points graph up. More on that later.

Points Graph:
There might be some trends starting to emerge but it's still early in the season so I'll let the viewer decide if they see any.

NFA Power Rankings: November 15th, 2018

I had the idea a few days ago to try some sort of power rankings for NFA in this blog. No point in doing power rankings of foul clubs each week as that is basically already covered in the weekly roundups standings section.

Posting on Thursday makes sense as it was, for the first few years of the league, the weekly deadline. That's right, the NFA used to be weekly roster changes- Thursday as opposed to Monday. Foul Club GMs used to have to change midweek. Even though that was a natural break in the NFA weekly schedule as there are traditionally only a few games on Thursday as that is the main national broadcast day. But FC GMs complained that they would forget to set their lineups with the midweek deadline and eventually the commissioner relented and changed it to weekly-Monday roster changes.

Anyway, I don't know if I will post this every week and there may be some calibrating early on but I am thinking of a top 25 foulers post each power ranking. If you have any suggestions on how to make this better leave them in the comments. So let's try this out, here are the first ever NFA Fouler Power Rankings!

Week 4 Roundup: Cycling Edition

Pretty impressive week for the top two teams this week as both achieved the Season Cycle. Rodman'sWeddingDress achieved it first followed by Pgastan FC on the last day of the week thanks to Blake Griffin fouling for the cycle this week. And now time for your regularly scheduled post:

Season Cycle Tracker:
- Rodman'sWeddingDress - 11/8/18

6. F'N FLOPPERS - 1370 (+430)
6. Arlington Assaulters - 1370 (+320)
8. Ohsnappers!!! - 1290 (+275)
9. Gamblor - 1255 (+330)

<= 195 points: Horrible week
200-295 points: Poor week
300-395 points: Average week
400-495 Points: Great Week
500-595 Points: Excellent Week
>=600 points: Amazing week

Gamblor had an average week of 330 points but still finds himself in last place. Ohsnappers!!! had a poor week of 275 points and falls to 8th place because of it. Arlington Assaulters had an average week of 320 points and stays in 6th place and is joined by F'N FLOPPERS who had a great week of 430 points who jumps up from 8th to a tie for 6th place.

Oww Ming's Flagrants had a great week of 410 points but falls one spot to 5th. Baltimore HItsquad had an excellent week of 525 points and jumps one spot up to 4th. GG Foulin' had a great week of 485 points and remains in 3rd place. Rodman'sWeddingDress had an excellent week of 580 points but remains in 2nd place. Pgastan FC had an amazing week of 680 points (of course 430 of those were from Blake Griffin which would equate to 63% of his points this week)and stays in 1st place.

My sources tell me that Pgastan FC's first round draft pick was between Julius Randle and Andre Drummond. The latter who is currently the number one player in the NFA with 595 points scored so far when Julius Randle only has 255 points. So Pgastan FC could have potentially scored 340 more points so far had he drafted Drummond. It's still a long way to go in the season but it's looking like that decision on draft night could come back to bite him. Had he drafted Drummond Pgastan FC would have 3 of the top 4 players in NFA as of this writing.

Points Graph:
We are 4 weeks into the season now, so here's the first points graph.

Week 3 Roundup: Election Eve Edition

Couldn't really think of a better title and like most people the election is probably on their minds so it's fitting. Hey, it's also an alliteration, so there's that. Anyway, let's get to the post.

Performance Foul Tracker:
First Ejection - GG Foulin' 10/20/18
First Flagrant - Pgastan FC and Baltimore Hitsquad 10/30/18
First Techy - Pgastan FC and Ohsnappers!!! on 10/17/18

We finally have our first flagrants of the year! Pgastan FC and Baltimore Hitsquad both achieved the feat on October 30th. Now all that's left is the first team to the season cycle.

Season Cycle Tracker:
- Pgastan FC, Baltimore Hitsquad, Arlington Assaulters are missing an ejection.
- GG Foulin' and Rodman'sWeddingDress are missing a flagrant.
- Ohsnappers!!!, Gamblor, Oww Ming's Flagrants, and F'N FLOPPERS are missing both flagrant and ejection.

300-395 points: Average week
400-495 Points: Great Week
500-595 Points: Excellent Week
>=600 points: Amazing week

Gamblor still finds himself at the bottom even after a great week of 400 points but he has closed the gap and looks to be back in the race. Like the 8th place racer who gets the lightning item in Mario Kart. F'N FLOPPERS had an average week of 355 points and remains in 8th place. Ohsnappers!!! had a poor week of 265 points and falls all the way down to 7th from 4th.

Arlington Assaulters had an average week of 375 points and stays in 6th place. Baltimore Hitsquad had an excellent week of 510 points and moved up from 7th to 5th. Oww Ming's Flagrants had a great week of 495 points and moved up from 5th to 4th place.

GG Foulin' had a great week of 405 points but actually dropped one spot to 3rd. Rodman'sWeddingDress had a great week of 405 points as well but drops to 2nd. That's because Pgastan FC had an excellent week of 565 points and moves from 3rd to 1st place.

Week 1 Roundup: A Blank Slate

Well, well, well and we're underway with a brand new NFA Season. Since I covered the draft in a separate post I won't be doing that here. But I do have a new feature to start out the season with. There have been some performance foul droughts to start a season before, but since I didn't take records only anecdotal evidence will do so far. I believe Pgastan FC had a performance foul drought in one recent season that lasted 2 or 3 weeks before he got his first techy. Anyway, I decided to track each teams first performance foul of the season as well as the first of each from a league-standpoint. Please note that while technically a foul out is an accumulation of fouls and not generally considered a performance foul per se, I did include it in the tracker, as the point was to see when each team scored more than 5 points on a given stat category.

Performance Foul Tracker

Oww Ming's Flagrants - Foul Out 10/17/18
Baltimore Hitsquad - Foul Out 10/17/18
Pgastan FC - Techy 10/17/18
Rodman'sWeddingDress - Techy 10/17/18
GG FOulin' - Techy 10/20/18
Ohsnappers!!! -Techy 10/17/18
F'N FLOPPERS - Techy 10/19/18
Gamblor - Techy 10/17/18
Arlington Assaulters - Techy 10/20/18

First Ejection - GG Foulin' 10/20/18
First Flagrant -
First Techy - Pgastan FC and Ohsnappers!!! on 10/17/18
First Foul Out - Oww Ming's Flagrants, Baltimore Hitsquad, Ohsnappers!!!!, and Gamblor on 10/17/18

As you can see, every team has had at least one performance fouls since the NFA season started, which may be a record, but there are no records prior to this season. As you can also see, we've had everything except for a flagrant so far this season. I will also point out which team is the first to complete the cycle for the season as well, but that could be awhile.

Stat Corrections
- There were no stat corrections this week

Transactions
- GG Foulin' added Kevin Love on October 11th
- Pgastan FC added Jaren Jackson Jr. and dropped Harry Giles on October 11th
- Gamblor added Tristan Thompson on October 16th

- GG Foulin' added Ersan Ilyasova and dropped Kristaps Porzingis on October 21st

Rodman'sWeddingDress picked up Brandon Ingram after he was part of that brawl in which he and a few others got ejected. Ingram will be suspended for this week's of games though.

Standings as of October 22, 2018

1. Rodman'sWeddingDress - 475 (+475)
2. GG Foulin' - 415 (+415)
3. Pgastan FC - 400 (+400)
4. Baltimore Hitsquad - 375 (+375)
5. Oww Ming's Flagrants - 340 (+340)
6. Ohsnappers!!! - 320 (+320)
7. F'N FLOPPERS - 285 (+285)
8. Arlington Assaulters - 255 (+255)
9. Gamblor - 190 (+190)

300-395 points: Average week
400-495 Points: Great Week
500-595 Points: Excellent Week
>=600 points: Amazing week

After one week in the books, Gamblor is at the bottom after a horrible week of 190 points. Arlington Assaulters had a poor week of 255 points, as did F'N FLOPPERS who scored 285 points. Ohsnappers!!!, Oww Ming's Flagrants, and Baltimore Hitsquad all had average weeks scoring 320, 340, and 375 points respectively. Pgastan FC is in third after a great week of 400 points. GG Foulin' (back after a 1 year hiatus) is in 2nd after a great week 415 points. And after 1 week, Rodman'sWeddingDress is at the top with 475 points.

NFA 2018-2019 Season Preview and Draft Recap

The National Foul Association is back! The Association completed its 9th draft ahead of its 9th season last night. We'll address the draft in a second but first some interesting tidbits from inside the draft room.

NFA Analytics
First off, we haven't decided on what to call this analytics movement sweeping the Association by storm right now. Foulerball is what Pgastan FC has been using for a few years but my sources tell me that they are open for another name. Foulernomics? The Association is open to ideas of naming this movement.

Anyway, during the early rounds of the draft, Oww Ming's Flagrant's (last year's champion) revealed they are using analytics and cited a fouls/minute stat. Pgastan FC, cited his fouls/game stat. This got PFC thinking that maybe he should be using a fouls/minute stat in addition to his fouls/game stat he has been using over the last few years. PFC may be contemplating firing his front office (or as Theo Epstein calls them "his nerds") as a way to shake things up. As Billy Beane said in Moneyball "Adapt or die." PFC has been using his method since the 2014-15 season and has finished 5th, 3rd, 4th, and 2nd. Two top 3 finishes may not be good enough, though he did not win the DeMarcus Cousins sweepstakes in any of those years.

We do not know how many years Oww Ming's Flagrant's has been using Analytics but he joined in 2014-15 season and has finished 7th, 2nd, 3rd, and 1st. It could be assumed that after a 1 year learning curve he has been using analytics ever since. He did win the Demarcus Cousins sweepstakes in 2017-18 season where he finished 1st and the 2015-16 season where he finished 2nd.

It will be interesting to see where the Foulerball movement takes the NFA and if other Clubs start adopting analytical methods to assess their teams. No team has discovered Fouls Above Replacement (FAR) yet but if they do they could run away with the league.

Season Changes
They Call Me Gamblor has shortened their name to just Gamblor. All other Foul Club names remain the same.

The Draft
As for the draft itself, it started out different then previous years because Cousins is recovering from a torn Achilles last January and has no timetable to return. He also joined the Warriors so who knows exactly what his playing time situation will be once he is healthy. Also, this appeared to be the first draft in which every Foul Club showed up so this could be a highly competitive year in the Association.

Here's a look at how the 1st round played out:

1.  F'N FLOPPERS selected Draymond Green
2.  Oww Ming's Flagrants selected Karl-Anthony Towns
3.  Arlington Assaulters selected Dwight Howard
4.  GG Foulin' selected Devin Booker
5.  Gamblor selected Russell Westbrook
6.  Ohsnappers!!! selected Markieff Morris
7.  Pgastan FC selected Julius Randle
8.  Rodman'sWeddingDress selected Andre Drummond
9.  Baltimore Hitsquad selected Dillon Brooks

A couple of thoughts: Arlington Assaulters appeared to get lucky with Dwight Howard falling to 3 as he has been the 2nd off the board in previous drafts right behind Cousins. Oww Ming's Flagrants selected Karl-Anthony Towns 2nd overall and as defending champion and admitted user of analytics can you really question that pick? Markieff Morris at 6 for Ohsnappers!!! could be a steal as well. That forced Pgastan FC into a tough decition for 7th pick and he ended up taking Julius Randle.

Other Notable Draft Picks
- Gamblor took DeMarcus Cousins as the 5th pick in Round 2

I guess that's really the only notable draft pick not in the 1st round. I mean there were some other players that are good foulers that went later but that is the pick everyone wants to know.

Season Preview
Well given that Cousins is hurt, all 9 Foul Clubs showed up for the draft, and teams look pretty even, this league seems wide open. I don't even know how to predict a top 3 other than going by total points per team based on last year but that's not really scientific. It really does seem wide open for any club right now for the first time in NFA history.

Check back in the coming weeks for the weekly updates and any other league news that may break and of course the twice a season Donkies.

Well that's it for now.
