NFA Quote of the Year Nomination #1

The previous post was actually inspired by an email I got from Arlington Assaulters Owner. I have decided to nominate a quote from that email for quote of the year:

"Basketball is way more enjoyable now that I understand that it's meant to be watched for fouls and not baskets." ---Arlington Assaulters Owner

This may be the only quote of the year, but there is still time.

Could NFA Teams This Year Break the Record for Most Points in a Season?

With an extremely tight title race between Arlington Assaulters (6635 points) and They Call Me Gamblor (6630 points) AA asked me if either team is on pace to break the record for most points in a season. Well, let's find out:

The season is roughly 55% done. So that means these teams are roughly on pace for 10285 pts. If we give them the benefit of the doubt and say the season is only 50% done, then they are on pace for 13270.

*It's hard to figure out exactly how far the season is over since each team has played a different number of games.

So, where does that stack up to previous season's winners?

2009- Donkey Engine (Now Pgastan FC) won the league with 12990 pts
2010- Rodman'sWeddingDress won the league with 13470 pts
2011- Rodman'sWeddingDress won the league with 8350 pts. Keep in mind this was a lockout shortened season of only 66 games, so if we extrapolate to 82 games then he would have finished with 13440 pts.
2012- Pgastan FC won the league with 12435 pts.

2009 had 6 teams, while all other years had 7 teams competing in the NFA. 2013 has 8 teams.

So even if we use the 13270 number I gave above, it appears these teams are not on pace for a record. But keep in mind this is current pace as of January 30, 2014 and a few big nights could put either team on pace to break the record.

That's it for now.

Weekly Update: January 27, 2014

Gonna try (again) to establish some regular posts here. Will start with a run down of the previous week and recap the current standings and starting next week change in standings from the previous week.

Stat Corrections: There were no stat corrections this week.

Standings as of January 27:

1. They Call Me Gamblor- 6495 pts
2. Arlington Assaulters- 6410
3. Pgastan FC- 5640
4. Squids- 5490
5. Rodman'sWeddingDress- 5375
6. Baltimore Hitsquad- 5315
7. F'N FLOPPERS- 4640
8. Da Botchomania- 4300

As you can see the main battles are for 1st and 3rd. Gamblor and AA are duking it out for 1st, while 4 teams have a realistic shot for 3rd.

Transactions:

Bmore Hitsquad was the only team to make a roster move this past week, picking up Wilson Chandler and dropping Kevin Garnett.

That's it for now

Fouling for the Cycle or a Fouling a Perfect Game----What Comes Next?

Given the league's first Double Flagrant Ejection last night, it got me thinking of other NFA firsts we are waiting for.

Fouling for the cycle would be notching a stat in all 5 categories. This means 6 Personal fouls resulting in a foul out, at least one techy, at least one flagrant, and an ejection.

There are 3 ways to do this:
1. Your 6th personal foul results in your complaining to the ref earning a techy when you already had 1 and a flagrant, resulting in an ejection (350 pts)

or

2. Your 6th personal foul is a flagrant 2 resulting in you getting ejected while already carrying a techy (310 pts)

or

3. Your 6th personal foul is a flagrant 1 resulting in you getting ejected while already carrying a techy and an earlier flagrant (390 pts)

The other first we have yet to have is a perfect game, the most possible points one fouler could have in a single game. That would be: option 3 above (unless it's possible to get a second technical foul after you've been ejected for a two flagrant 1s, perhaps by arguing or bumping into the ref). I think that is possible, but not entirely sure, if it is that would result in 430 pts.

Obviously, the odds are better for someone to foul for the cycle before a perfect game and in fact, fouling a perfect game requires the fouler to foul for the cycle.

So I guess that settles that. Fouling for the cycle should happen first. But who is the most likely candidate to achieve this feat?

That's it for now.

League Roundup: Baltimore Hitsquad Makes History and More

Haven't need to post in a few weeks but last night is newsworthy.

Baltimore Hitsquad made history last night by getting the National Foul Associations first ever Double Flagrant Ejection. Jared Sullinger, was the player who got two flagrant 1s in a single game for the first time in league history. He also had 3 personal fouls for a total 275 pts, This may also be the highest score by a single player in league history, it would be more than a DTEFO by 5 points.

Baltimore Hitsquad ended up with 350 pts in total last night.

Also last night in the league:

Rodman'sWeddingDress: got a foul out from Rudy Gay and a techy from Joakim Noah, along with 20 personal fouls for 200 pts last night.

Pgastan FC got a flagrant from Larry Sanders (who is returning to form after being out injured) along with 13 personal fouls for a total of 145 points.
